Currently, INLD have two main approaches,

Space for time substitution in dryland freshwater ecosystems
The main issues to be addressed will be the effects of climate change, eutrophication, and salinization on biodiversity patterns on a global perspective, besides the effects of water level reductions in the maintenance of species richness and ecosystems services. However, how to sample data in temporary ecosystems?
One alternative is to use a comparative analysis of ecosystems in a space-for-time substitution approach to predict the consequences of rainfall reduction on environmental and biological variables (Blois et al. 2013).
In this case, three main perspectives need to be considered: Monitoring sites, experimental approach and paleolimnology.

Studies of aquatic ecosystems in drylands: identifying gaps through the appropriate analytical tools
The scientometric approach in the INLD (International Network on Limnology of Drylands) perspective has been used with the objective to understand and to fill the gaps of research in drylands zones around the world. In this way, we intend to access data and information about the water bodies distribution, such as biodiversity, conservation aspects among others. In the second step, we will conduct meta-analysis studies. Recently, we expand some specific issues about lentic ecosystems beyond drylands areas.
Keywords: systematic review, scientometric analysis, meta-analysis
